I was trying to think of a good way to start my first article of 2010 when the poem below arrived via email. I think it summarizes the cold and snowy December and January we are experiencing.

A Minnesota Poem
by: Author unknown

It's winter in Minnesota
And the gentle breezes blow
seventy miles an hour
at twenty-five below

Oh, how I love Minnesota
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut

Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave Minnesota
'Cause I'm frozen to the ground!

Our next two meetings have been scheduled for February 3rd and April 21. We are still in the process of finalizing the agendas for both meetings and so you should check the web site (www.drca.org) and look for email announcements that we will send out before the meetings. At our February 3rd meeting, the County will discuss the upcoming improvements that are planned for the lift station pumps in our neighborhood. In addition, we are hoping that Marymount University will be there to speak about their Master Planning process that has just started. And along with elections in April, our guest speaker will be newly elected Arlington County Board Chairman Jay Fisette.

I sure that many of you share my disappointment with the recent County leaf collection and snow removal services. While my street was cleared of leaves in a timely fashion, the same could not be said for the 18 inches of snow we had in December. I have put two surveys on the web site where you can let us know your level of satisfactions with those two services. I will leave the surveys open for a few weeks and then pass on the results to the County.

Treasurer Arleen wants to remind you to check your DRCA membership status by taking a look at the mailing label on this newsletter. An application is usually found in every newsletter and you can always find one on the web site. We appreciate your continued support as your dues pay for the meeting refreshments, newsletter (reproduction and postage) and web site.

Here’s hoping for milder weather and I hope to see you at an upcoming meeting.
